Posted: 20 Jan 2009 My first and only newt of the season appeared today (rather a frosty night!) Male palmate, making a fair attempt at a crest and breeding moult, in my garden pond, Surrey. They're on their way back! (I've had reports from the SW for well over a week now). Steve Langham - Chairman

Posted: 21 Jan 2009 Yes, the season has started in my Surrey garden pond too with both palmate and smooth newts seen as soon as the 8cms of ice had melted. Julia |

Posted: 21 Jan 2009 When the pond is free of ice or it's not chucking it down or blowing a gale I might manage to spot a few in my pond in East Devon! Suz |

Posted: 28 Jan 2009 Palmate Newts in my pond on Christmas day. Last few weeks spotted many of last years efts now 15-20mm. Tonight 20 odd adults including males busting moves for the females. First 'paired' frogs spotted last night. Middle of Bristol. scooter |
